UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

SOMI BOTTLE DRIVE

Special Olympics Michigan recently hosted a very successful bottle / can drive to raise funds for our athletes - they are estimating over $120,000 worth of returnables have been turned in to their offices and participating "drop-off sites" around the State.

Now, SOMI is seeking volunteers to help them with sorting and packing these bottles/cans for their recycling partner to process.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Volunteers will sort returnables into bins, depending on their size (cans, small plastic, large plastic, glass) and then load full bags into trailers for hauling to the recycling center.

On sorting days, SOMI will provide lunch (or dinner for the evening shifts), bottled water / gatorade, disposable gloves, hand sanitizer, and sunscreen for volunteers. These shifts will be OUTDOORS, primarily under pop-up tents and allowing for social distancing. All ages welcome; children volunteers must be supervised by accompanying adult volunteers.

WHERE: Locations available in Auburn Hills & Oxford
WHEN: Tuesday, July 21st - Thursday, July 23rd
& Tuesday, July 28th - Thursday, July 30th
WEAR: Comfortable, athletic clothing that can get dirty and can handle the weather.

WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S AT DETROIT ZOO

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is more than an event, it's a movement

For the health and safety of all participants, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s won’t be a large in-person gathering at the Detroit Zoo this year – instead, the organization is inviting you to walk in your neighborhood in teams of friends and family while others in your community do the same on Saturday, September 26, 2020*.

We’re all walking and fundraising for the same thing: a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
